Denon AVR-X1000 ARC Input

Hello,
Does anyone know how to get get ARC input working with a Denon AVR-X1000? I was able to get it working in HDMI-CEC mode, but this is less than optimal for my setup. I've googled the topic and not found any answers.

Anthony, is your TV ARC capable and if yes, is it enabled?

Yes, it is ARC enabled. The setup works if I switch the receiver to HDMI-CEC mode; unfortunately if I do that, every time I power on it changes to that (after the universal remote tells it how it should be setup). The TV is a: Samsung UN46F6300.

In your settings go to Video --- > HDMI Setup --- > HDMI Control and set that to "On"

So that is how I had it when it worked, unfortunately it breaks everything else. When I power up the receiver always switches to TV after about 5 seconds. At the point the remote is done with its macro and I can't extend it out that far. That is why I'm asking what the manual settings should be on the receiver.

I should also add that audio doesn't work when HDMI Control is not set to on and the receiver source is set to TV.

Under HDMI Control, I see two sub settings, 'Pass Through Source' and 'Power Off Control'. I have set these to 'Last' and 'Off' respectively. See if that works for you.

If that doesn't work, you can also try turning the Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) function on the TV off. It's unclear to me from reading the manual if that will affect the ARC function. ARC is under the Anynet+ header, but it never says that Anynet+ has to be on to use ARC.

Okay, so I turned HDMI back on in the receiver and verified its enabled on the TV. Results:
- Turn system on to netflix and works
- Turn system on to watch tv and after 6 seconds the receiver switches to TV (from CBL/SAT)
- The tv also realizes the receiver over the speakers automatically in Speaker Settings -> Speaker Select
- When moving through the tv config it makes noise

Disable HDMI-CEC on the receiver or the tv (tried both)
- Turn system on to netflix and there is no audio
- Turn system on to watch tv and after 6 seconds the source stays correct
- The tv receiver option is grayed out in Speaker Settings -> Speaker Select
- When moving through the tv config it doesn't make noise

Receiver specific:
- Pass Source is Last
- Pow. Off Control is All

Any other ideas? This is turning into a bigger PIA than I was expecting...

Well, there's always the optical audio output on the TV. I know it's one more cable to run, but it would solve this problem.

The best solution is to use HDMI from cbl/sat box right to your TV (HDMI2), no need to run this to your receiver. Use Digital optical line to receiver. If you want you can run another HDMI from Rec'r to TV to display Rec'r menu on TV, but that will be on another TV source (HDMI1), but make this the TV setting on the rec'r since with HDMI-CEC will want to change to TV.
