TV Mounts Full Motion Safety

I just bought a Sanus AMF112-B1. Holds up to 60lbs, am mounting an old flatscreen HP which is 56 lbs. My concern is safety. It affixes to the wall very safely onto the posts with 3 long screws, it also has a very strong bracket that fits on the back of the TV. But my concern is where it swivels. It has this small mount with a small metal rod. I can't help but think it is the weak point and could break and fall on someone. Am new to this forum, do I have to proactively log back in to see if I got a reply? Thanks.

If they've rated it for 60lbs, that means it should have no problem handling that weight fully extended. That said, I tend to err on the side of not being totally trusting of things either. Safest bet in my book would be to additionally attach a safety cable to an appropriately strong spot.

IMO, go for overkill. A safety margin of 6.67% just does not give the warm and fuzzy feeling. Get a mount that can support 100 lbs while giving you the articulation needed. This will also ensure that the TV will not overwhelm the mechanical limits of the mount (droop because of metal fatigue or swivel point clamp failure).

Mechanically speaking, the weak links are the top mounting screws (on wall and on TV). The top screws on the wall must be extra secure, into studs and deep enough to not pull out. The TV side is not much of a concern since the Vesa mounting points are properly threaded.

That's just it, when it says 60lbs, it theoretically should be rated for 2X that load realistically, so technically they underrate it. That said, having looked at that model, I wouldn't have chosen that one simply because it is one point of contact on the swivel. It will probably be fine, but I'd like more comfort factor.

Does that 56 lbs include the stand?

I have an articulating mount and it works well. I think you should be fine.
