I found this sub on craiglist in my area for $500, is it worth the asking price? The guy says it's less then a year old and is in great condition.

At less than a year old, I'd say so assuming it's in good shape and everything is on the up and up. The warranty is transferable, so you'd have 4+ years of coverage.

I did jump on it and it is in great shape and sounds awesome, the only trouble i have had with it is my room.The room acoustics are causing me some issues, I can't seem to find a sweet spot for it. All of the bass seems to end up in the back corner of the room no matter where I place the sub. I would think a sub like that would have no problem filling my 1700 Cu sq ft room,but it is hard to here in some spots and sometimes it missing that mid bass. I tried to stick the sub in the back corner but it didn't seem to improve anything. Any suggestions??

It's a sealed basement room with two walls with quiet rock and two walls cement covered by regular sheet rock,floor is covered with a rug. The ceiling has sheetrock and a acoustical drop ceiling, the room is 18x13x7. I will attach some pictures of my room tomorrow.

Make sure you have the phase on the sub set to zero. Set crossover to LFE(this allows your AVR to control the crossover). Set gain/volume to about half or slightly above. Ensure your main speakers are set to small, and crossover in AVR to 80 Hz. Hook up the sub and put it in the seat where you normally sit. Yes, ON the couch or chair. Play some bass heavy music. Crawl around the room in places where you can put the sub...corners, along walls, next to your seating position, etc. You should find very noticeable places where the bass sounds much better. Put the sub there. Run room correction. You will probably have to turn the sub level up after ARC, as it most often sets it too low for subwoofer freaks like us.

I'll give that a whirl. I have the Anthem MRX300, when I go into the speaker settings I set the speakers to 160 hz but it doesn't give me the option to set the sub, it just says SUB ON OR OFF.

How low do your main speakers play? Do you have really small satellites? That is the only reason you should have them crossed over that high. Normally, a lot of the "mid-bass" that people feel with music is above 80 Hz and is supplied by the speakers and not so much the sub. So you have two sources producing your mid bass, versus depending on one to provide smooth response throughout the room(which normally does not work well).

Whatever your cross your speakers at, your AVR will send everything below that to the sub.

I have placed klipsch wb-14 in my movie room for now, the klipsch web site says they play down to 82 hertz. I use them for 90% movies and will be replacing them with my rf-83 soon, but for now I'm trying to figure why all the bass ends up in the back corner no matter where I place the sub. I read an artical saying that no matter how big the speakers are that they should be set to small and let the sub do all the work for movie use.

Set the speakers to small for music and movies imo. I would try your crossover at both 80 and 100 Hz based on the FR of your mains, and see which sounds better. Have you done the subwoofer crawl yet? Between doing that, setting the crossover properly, mains set to small, and allowing your AVR's room correction to set the phase, you should get some decent bass.
