I'm upgrading my components in a 25x11 x7 ht music room. I have upgraded the room acoustics, DVD,subs and speakers[ kef ls 50s]. I'm trying to decide if I should purchase the Marantz 7701 av with the mm 7055 amp or the Emotiva UMC 200 with a xpa 5 amp. I will run an oppo DVD with svs dual 12s sealed subs. Cost is not so much of a concern, they are somewhat similar in price. As you can see , I have made my previous purchases By following the guidance and expertise of the members of this forum. Does anyone have experience comparing the sound quality of these two brands?
i think either option will be a great choice. If anyone has any recommendations I am all ears and I appreciate the feedback. Thanks again for suggestions.

The emo has more power, so I would go with the xpa5 between what you listed.. but I don't see how the 7701 and umc200 are anywhere near each other in price...

Outlaw is another good option the 7500 is 5 channels or 5 2200 mono bocks {$1400 or so for all 5} but if call them and ask for bstock, you can get them as cheap as $1375 ish....

My vote is for the Marantz, if those are the only 2 options.

Glad I could help. :D

You should include your gears in your signature. :D

Hard to go wrong with KEF, SVS, Marantz/Denon. ;)

Indeed. I'm looking forward to hearing separates over my old avr.

I would just go with a Marantz, Denon, or Yamaha flag ship or near flag ship AVR without the amp. Then if you find that lacking, add a 2 or 3 channel. Your room is not that big, so very likely an AVR will do just fine, the saved money can then be spent on things that count much more. Their isn't much point in matching the LS50 with big amps and KEF recommends 25 to 100W. Anything like a Denon X4000, AVR-4520, Marantz SR-7008, or Yamaha RX-A2030 should be all you need for them to sound great.

If you must go separate, then my vote is also for the Marantz, I am very happy with mine, they are quiet, run reasonably cool, dynamic and reliable so far.

My vote goes to the Marantz avr which have always impressed me. Separates are fine, but get real separates and don't waste you money on Emotiva that will sound no better and be less reliable than a Marantz receiver.

That's a pretty sweeping generalization you're making there. I had the UMC-1 and while it wasn't without it quirks it definitely sounded incredible. I now have a Marantz pre/pro and I find myself looking forward to the XMC-1 when it comes out, (pending the reviews).

My Marantz gear has Zero problems. My Emotiva has issues every three months..
