Here's a new saying for you: Don't be above bending over to check on a rusty can.

A Northern California couple out walking their dog on their property stumbled across a modern-day bonanza: $10 million in rare, mint-condition gold coins buried in the shadow of an old tree.

My part of CA too, so perhaps I need to get a metal detector out there  As far as we know too, there was only one owner of our property; who lived on it anyway.

It's a good saying but when one bends over here, one has to worry about who is checking their can. You know that pink flip flop wearing, twister playing crowd...

It was on their property, so unless it can somehow be identified as stolen, it would belong to them. The article indicates they are selling them, so I presume that means they're clear. Unlike the lottery, you don't have to pay income tax on that either I think... The previous owners left some large items at the house when they sold it and we were told that anything that is left there becomes yours as part of the purchase.

Them coins are from the 1800's so chances are no one is coming to claim them now lol... Good for them, I love reading stuff like this.... I once bought a house at auction {tax auction} and when demoing the kitchen, fuond a false wall behind the refrigerator and there was 16 cherry jars {the large 1 gallon glass jars} full of change, my brothers were younger then and I told them if they rolled it I would split it with them, they rolled it all it came to a little under $3900, I gave them an even $1000 each, they were both 14 years old at the time {twins}... I gave them the money in change lol, all the pennies and nickels....

Exactly, it says coins that old are difficult to find in any condition let alone mint, so the fact that these were found is pure luck.
