This is the TV I have it's a Samsung LN46C650:

These are the speakers I have Creative GigaWorks T20 Series II 2.0 Speakers:

The problem is the sound is really low, watching TV. My setup is quite simple all I have is the TV and a Motorola HD-DVR/6416 model. If I'm watching a movie and using the TV sound/speakers only it's like I have to put the volume maybe like around 20 out of the 100 max which is normal. Then if I turn on my speakers for added sound and deeper bass I'll have to turn the volume on the speakers using the dial on the speakers to almost 85% it's full capacity which is nuts. At 85% of it's capacity and if I mute the TV just silence but still at 85% volume on these standalone speakers I can hear that noise, I hope you understand what I'm trying saying it's the noise that comes through the speakers when maxed almost, meaning you got the volume to loud, it's that silent noise. I know there's a problem there's no way I should have to put these speakers near there max volume for normal use. Especially when the small cheap TV speakers provide plenty of clear sound at there 20% capacity.

I've used the adapter that came with the speakers (Dual RCA-to-stereo audio adapter (TV adapter)
going from the TV 3.5mm audio jack to the speakers using the adapter that you can see if you scroll down the the page a little on the speakers link I provided.

Currently I'm using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable from the TV to the back of speakers, it makes no difference.

The only two connections the speakers have are the 3.5mm AUX in the front and the 3.5mm in the back it makes no difference which I use the result is the same.

If you look at reviews for these 2.0 standalone speakers they have great reviews. I've tried diff cables, I used to have these speakers connected to my pc in another room couple years ago using a 3.5mm cable from the PC to the speakers directly and the sound was great never had to go past 20-50 it's capacity to get great clear sound, I'm using the same type of connection now too. There's something about having them connected to the TV in the living room that's not working right. I've looked at the TV manual the connection is correct as far as I can tell.

I wish I had a optical speakers system so I could test that connection out. If I can't get this to work right I may have purchase one.

The only thing I've not tried is connecting the speakers to the DVR instead of the TV. The reason why I don't want to do this is because I watch and listen to videos/music on my USB stick thats connected to the side of the TV. Even if the sound was to be working correctly through the DVR I would not keep it like that cause of the USB I want to use with speakers too.

So what are my options ?

Can this problem be fixed ?

Should I buy another 2.0 speaker system but having a optical connection instead would fix the problem ?

thanks

Sounds like a good ideal but seems like a half solution that probably won't work. I don't really mind buying a new setup but wanted to see if I could fix this problem. Also a optical connection I don't know if that would fix it. thanks though.

Welcome to the forum!

According to the TV's manual, that analog audio output should not be controlled by the TV volume control. However, just as a check, I'd suggest setting the TV audio to "External Speaker" and then turning up the volume on the TV to see if it affects the volume coming from your Creative speakers. It's a long shot, but it's something that I'd try.

I'm not trying to controller the volume of the ext speakers with the TV. The TV volume and the speakers are set separately. But anyway I will try what you said.

You could try a line driver to boost the pre-amp signal. I just got this one to boost the signal to my bass shaker amp. It's good.

Google or look on retail me not for a coupon code. Even though shipping was high and wasteful (they easily could've used a $5.15 flat rate small box but didn't), I still consider it a worthwhile purchase.

Seriously, I have no life.
Obviously the out put from your TV is too low a voltage to drive your powered speakers. Your best solution is to boost the signal from TV to speakers, as rojo suggests.

Probably pre-amp is not bad idea, but these tiny speaker would be able to produce only so much volume and bass.
I think it's worth the time to explore alternatives - like Behringer MS16 speakers - I owned them for several years - and they really produce really nice sound with rich bass...
Not a in the same league as my JBL monitors, but none the less - very nice and powerful sound the their price.

Right not their price is tad high at $100, but you get them at $60-70 (shipped) they would great value
