Need New Router

Title says it- 100.00 ish, good all around performance with Ethernet ports and abgn.
comcast gateway constantly dropping wifi- need to bridge it and add my own router.
I've already checked reviews and most seem to all over the place as far as ratings go.. Not sure which to believe.
D-link, net gear, or asus?

I've used Netgear in the past so my last one I chose them as well. To my disappointment, the wireless portion was always a big flaky and recently basically started to fail. Major drop, super slow speed (to the point my devices would actually say "disconnected due to slow speed"), so it was an issue when trying to work from home. I read tons and tons of reviews and literally just about an hour ago, picked up an ASUS Dark Knight for $125. I'll have to see how it does, but setup was a breeze, its wireless is extremely fast and CNET rated it pretty much one of the top 3. There's a higher model out right now that is even faster, but CNET also said this one was pretty much just as good for about $50 less. Pleased so far

I have comcast too and I don't even use their modem - I bought my own Motorola and have been very happy with it.

I've gone thru Netgear and D-link routers and finally got an Asus at the rec of my bro-in-law that does IT work.

I put a 3rd party open source firmware on it as he told me to do (Tomato) and that was also a good decision as it opens up extra options if you have a general idea of what you are doing. I did this all myself with instructions online and didn't need his help.

It's been rock solid for 18 months now, and I am now just about an Asus fanboy (mobo, router, memopad, nexus 7 in the house).

The only thing, nowadays I would probably go for the dual band models instead of the single band. Without doing any homework, that one that garcia rec'd looks like a solid choice.

+1 Asus RT routers are like tanks. I have an RT-AC66U model. It's no longer latest and greatest, but I have recently got 6-7 people on with Asus RT routers and everyone is very happy with them

They are not cheap, but they worth the extra. N66U will not support AC wireless, but if you don't have AC clients then you have nothing to worry with dual band N

I can't even remember what I got but it was the sh!t YO !!!

EDIT: BTW, now I'm wondering if I should maybe be upgrading my router.

That's what you recommended to me last year and it works great. Incredible range, works from basement to upstairs and in the backyard.
