Do you listen to AM radio anymore?

I ran across this article and found it interesting. I bought a new truck that came with a nice hi-fi system (not that high end but pretty nice). I was driving to lunch with a friend and he noticed I had my radio set to KOA 850 AM. He asked me why I would listen to AM when I have HD FM, Sirrius, USB, SD and a CD player. I explained that I listened to sports and sports radio. It wasn't that long ago it seems that I had to listen to all of the hockey games on AM radio. We didn't have the NHL Center Ice package yet. Lol.

Just curious who out there listens to AM anymore.

I listen to a couple of AM radio stations but not on the AM band. Interestingly, I often stream them from my iPhone to my truck stereo via Bluetooth.

If I'm bored during a night drive I will scan the AM band to see what kind of kind of wacko talk show host I can pick up. Reception is usually fleeting.

You have explained one of the main reasons I don't listen to AM radio. And for music, the fidelity is poor, so I never want it for that.

I listen to traffic/news AM stations as well as talk radio, though talk radio is usually streamed at home. I'd never listen to music over the radio though.

Not much anymore. In my city, the only talk radio left on AM is traffic radio, and they do an awful job, so unless it's in the middle of the night and I hit construction/repair detours and traffic, I'm all FM.

Dont they have AM stereo? I remember that from a while ago and saw it in a vehicle or on a tuner.

Maybe we have a particularly good AM talk station in Raleigh. Saturday mornings we listen to yard & garden show w/ local experts. It's real helpful with stuff about our own grass, trees and yard. Then local restaurant review show. Again, it's helpful suggesting places to eat, (my favorite thing), we haven't tried. Other than that, only for occasional news/weather.

AM is best suited for the spoken word, hence the proliferation of talk shows.
I used to always listen to the investment and real estate shows when I was younger.
Then there was The Car Guys show, a call-in repair show and one of the funniest shows on AM band.
It's not wise to dismiss AM since if you don't like a show you can change the station

I could not imagine listening to AM for music. I think there are some Spanish music channels and I actually heard a American Indian radio station while I was driving through the Wind River Indian reservation. That is a funny story in itself. It was a tribal ceremony type song but they referenced Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck throughout the song. Hilarious!:D

Seriously, I have no life.
I haven't listened to AM radio for about 60 years. I have never understood why that extremely archaic (around a 100 years old now) has persisted. Should have been killed off 60 years ago.

I am really glad it wasn't. I remember 50 years ago delivering papers on my bicycle, 4:00AM Sunday mornings, little transistor radio taped to the handlebars, listening to country music on the only station available at that time, and loving it!!!

I haven't listened to AM since KIRO (my favorite talk station) moved to FM. Every time I hear an AM station I just can't believe I used to listen to fuzzy AM all the time. I listen to KIRO all day while driving for work and before they moved to FM I remember how it would fade out under overpasses and behind buildings.

If it was so great why don't you get another paper route? :D

It's funny how archaic technology has stuck around. The record player, amplifier and woofer technology are all really old, as is the internal combustion engine. AM radio simply works in the radio industry business model. I haven't listend to AM radio for music since the early 80's though.

Riding my old route on a bicycle today would be a journey... an epic journey... even without carrying the papers.

Likely the most sure and quick way for me to get banned from this site. (Note the absence of any smiley face.)

This is one of those memories best left as a memory, (where it can remain a good thing). :)
