Deff teck vs pioneer cs-c303?

Long story short. 6 years ago someone gave me a nice set of pioneer speakers.(cs-c303) I was new to stereo systems. I hooked them up to a cheap Sony av reciever i had in storage building. They sounded like crap. So i put them up. Moved to new house where i made me a theater room with alot nicer equipment. I was going to take them to work and use them with a yamaha system. I decided to hook them up real quick and see how they sound compared to my deff teck bp7006. I was stunned!! They sound alot better! I played a couple of songs and the bigger pioneers seemed to have a more detailed sound. Wtf???

They sound better than the deff tecks with a marantz. The old Sony was the bottom of the line. Probably 25 to 50 watts. The marantz is ratted a 100watts per channel.the pioneer specs are 6ohm 120watts max.

FWIW, it took me a good bit of time to get my DefTech BP7006s to sound the way I wanted. Speaker placement is huge but seems more so with the BP7006s. If you haven't already, try swapping them L to R as the firing direction of the powered subs makes a big difference with placement. Also, make sure they have a little breathing room from the wall. They are bi-polar and don't sound as good when the are cramped in to smaller spaces.

Three feet from the back wall and at least the same from the side wall. How do you have the woofers crossed on the deff tecks, hence forward known as Def Tech

For example on hotel California hell freezes over. In the first 2 minutes of song the guitar sounds like its out in front of all the rest on the pioneer. On the deff teck the guitar sounds like its behind everything. Does that make since?

That will never work as a comparison. How do you know which speaker is imaging what?

What crossedover said. At least you discovered your Pioneer speakers don't sound that bad after all. Maybe you can find another place to use them. Garage, bedroom etc.

When you say imaging do you mean what sounds are sopossed to be coming from left/right? I think I found that out by changing speakers from side to side. That being said I did find some songs that output the same sound through left and right. I also had 3 people come in and listen and without me telling them anything they all agreed that the pioneers sound better. I'm so freaking confused! A newer $600+ speaker gets whooped by a 24 year old bottom of the line speaker. At best buy the deff tecks sounded like one of the best on display ( except the b&w and martin logans.

Unless you level match and use a switch your relying on your ears and we all know that can be confusing. Google double blind testing. Speakers are different than amps but regardless your methodology is flawed.

Does your AVR have a A/B speaker outputs? If so hook the defs up to A and Pioneers to B & listen to each by flipping the A/B switch. Then switch the inputs (pioneers on a & deftech on B) and test again to make sure the AVR is treating both zones the same. Even better have someone else flip the switch with your eyes closed so you don't know which one is playing by eye, by ear only.

Like said above it may be where the speakers are positioned in the room is better situated for the Pioneers. The best test would be with each speaker in their optimum location.

Well some record may have been set here - your group may be 1 or 2 out
of several hundred thousand, that would chose them Pioneer speakers over
the Definitive.

I am not really concerned about level matching - I want a speaker to sound
good at all levels. Also, a bi-polar will (radiate) sound different than a direct
radiating speaker.

I would not hook a different speaker between the left and right side.

Clear your mind and focus a little more - then play one set at a time - play 5
or 6 songs and take notes with one set of speakers. Then repeat with the other
set. Then see how it turns out.

Also, give it a few days - your mind may or may not change.

With all that said, while I for the most part, do not prefer bi-polar speakers for
music, I will take them over those Pioneer speakers.

However, it is what floats your boat.

That is not balanced sound - the Pioneer does not have much applied to the cross-over
network, to make a balance and cohesive sound. The guitars should not dominate the
sound-stage.
