HTib and AVR Subwoofer connection help

I have an HTiB - LG BH6730S. I also have a Yamaha RX 375 Receiver. I want to be able to hook my TV, Xbox and Blu Ray to the AVR and have it all play through the surround sound. I believe I have seen enough to confirm the speakers will all hook up to the AVR with no problem. The problem I have is with the Subwoofer. The LG subwoofer is a passive sub, but the AVR only has a Pre Amp Out. My understanding is that I need to modify the connector from the sub and buy a small amp for it. Then just hook the Pre Amp Out to the amp with the sub connected to the amp. I have a few questions regarding this set up.

1. Will it this allow the sub to work with the AVR?
2. With an HDMI to the AVR from the Xbox and the Blu ray, and an HDMI out from the AVR to the TV, will I be able to hear all sound through the surround sound speakers?
3. What are some recommended amps for something like this?

Thanks for helping an obvious newbie out!

1) No. The only cost effective solution is to get a powered sub that uses an RCA connection to attach to the sub out of your receiver. Better subs than what you have can be had for less than $100.

2) Blue-ray, definitely but I'm not sure about the Xbox. As for your TV, you don't provide enough info to answer that. It needs to have some sort of audio output.

3) Amp for what?

1. So is it not possible or just not cost effective (I will follow most cost effective, I am just curious)?

2. The tv is an LG 50PN5300 (LG plasma-tv 50PN5300 | LG USA). I thought that the TV audio would be able to travel back to the AVR via the HDMI cable? By not being sure on the Xbox, are you not sure it will output the audio at all, or just not sure if it will output surround sound?

3. I was thinking I could install a plate amp. Then run pre out to the amp and then connect to the sub. So that's what the amp would have been for. It seems that I am obviously a little (lot) confused with how this all works.

Thanks for your help! I was thinking I had done enough research but have obviously found out otherwise.

1)_Yes, it possible but not cost effective. How much are you planning to spend on that plate amp? But, no matter what it costs, that HTIB sub will still suck.

2) Get out your manuals. Unless BOTH your tv and AVR support HDMI 1.4 and ARC (Audio Return Channel) the simply running HDMI won't do squat. I doubt they do. As or Xbox, I have very limited knowledge on them.

3) See # 1

Sounds good. Thanks for your help. I will do some research in the subwoofer forum to find a decent, inexpensive powered sub.
