Hello all! I've got a dedicated theater room 13x22. I bought some klipsch sf3 towers and ss1 tripole surrounds On Craig's list for $150. I thought I was buying a good receiver off Amazon when I bought the onkyo 809 for $480. It was so much better than my cheap Sony ide had.long story short the onkyo is starting to have issues with HDMI. So I'm in the market for a new one. My budget is around $1100 for receiver. I have a 7.1 set up and need help Picking my next receiver and sub. I also have a klipsch sub10 and the box rattles at loud levels.before it started doing that it was the best sub lived owned. So I need to replace it as well. I would like to stay under a $1000. For a sub. I would like input on what you think. I plan on upgrading my speakers soon. They are rated at 100 watts now. So if I upgrade speakers I might need at least 140 watts. Thanks for your input.

Thank you for quick response. I've been shopping Amazon. I don't know if I'm spending to much. The one you recommend . Is it the best bang for the buck? Does it have a good reliability?

OK my next question is Best buy has the klipsch 450 watt on sell for $369 .considering that 250 watts more than what I have now will that be a good upgrade? Or should I spend $200 to $300 hundred more?

Some of these recommendations I've never herd of. I understand that brand names have hype and mark up. I guess my question is if I buy a $369 450 watts sub from best buy can I buy a better built better sounding sub from a company I've never herd of? I don't know what to expect. To me a good sub rattles the room In a movie Explosion and takes your breath away in music. Is that not correct?

Yes. Most definitely yes. Some of these companies make subs only, nothng else.

Now, if you want a little more justification, try reading posts other than yours on these issues, particularly in the forum labelled "Subwoofers". You'll see the same names mentioned over and over. Why do you think that is?

Totally wrong. A good sub should be nothing more than an extension of your towers, and good subs don't come cheap. Fart boxes on the other hand can be found at BB. As crazy as it might sound, but real subs don't sound like subs, but for something like that you would have to go for about 5k+

Let me ask you something? What do you expect for $369.00? Great build cabinet, decent driver and a 450 watt amp. Do you have any idea what that sub costs to manufacture? Don't forget the shipping from China. Spend the couple hundred more and get a decent sub.

Watts do not matter very much with respect to sub performance. For example take this Hsu VTF15h sub, it only has a 350 watt amp, but there are plenty of 1 kW subs it can blow past easily. It will outperform all the Klipsch subs easily except for maybe a THX pair and the pro subs.

If I where you I would go for HSU or SVS in the $500.00 range. They come highly recommended. Hundreds of member seem to be very impressed by them and they can't all be wrong. Save a coupe more bucks and you'll be happy. Like shadyJ mentions in the post above, it's not always about watts when it comes to subs.

You can't go wrong with any of the ID subs. SVS, HSU ,ect. I could have bought JL subs, but opted for dual SVS subs in my setup. The JLs are nice, but you are paying for a name and a middle man.;)

Fart boxes? :D

I haven't heard that one. :D

But I agree that you can buy $200 subs that can shake your walls like a ragdoll, but aren't really high quality.

Quality vs. Quantity, right? :D

I love JL car audio subs and the HT subs look great but that's a lot of freaking cash to dump out for a sub. Have always considered building a JL HT clone sub which would cost a heck of a lot less but what the ID sub companies have out for the price I went that route.

I read lots of forums before I made a choice and SVS, HSU, Rythmik, PSA among other ID's all seem to make a solid sub. When a company offers a home trial that costs you nothing if you are not completely satisfied how can you go wrong?
