Good for them. Lots of lost revenue though D:

As long as they still sell beer, I'm happy.........

It's a business. They can sell what they want, (and charge what they want). I'm not "offended" by any of their decisions. As with any business, I simply decide to shop there or not. In the case of CVS, they have a convenient location to us, their drug prices are competitive, so that's where we get our prescriptions. I get my smokes, beer, ammo, tires, groceries and bait somewhere else. ;)

I don't buy ammo there...or beer either, but I like the fact that they sell ammo :) They are next door to Big5, so at least better ammo selection and pricing there though. The local gun store is too small and doesn't shelf large quantities; less than Big 5. 20 minutes away in the "big town" is the big hunting/fishing store where you can get everything and anything in one place.

Not carrying tobacco products doesn't affect me because I don't use them, but I think it is a good step. I am not totally anti-tobacco or anything because that is someone's choice.

They figured out they could make more money selling something else on that shelf space is all.

Jeez Alex, what a great way to look at it, cynical much? :D LOL, you are definitely from Rhode Island.. A friend of mine is a pharmacist at a local CVS so I don't go there since I don't want her to see me buying so many morning after pills....

I think everyone should smoke and over eat, I make more money when more people are sick.

BTW...I have dipped Copenhagen for over 20 years, nicotine is a really nasty addiction(it's not a habit) and one of the hardest drugs to quit. Tomorrow will mark my 200th day without a dip or any type of nicotine in my system.

Good for you, stick with it, I have seen first hand the bad and although I never smoked or chewed, I can not imagine it being good enough to risk that stuff for....

I tasted chew once and OMG it was terrible... I guess I didn't know what to expect, but I figured it would be good, give me a nice ny strip flavored chew, not dirty sock flakes.... Its a good thing Deca isn't actually addictive*, I have not used any PED's in a while now, I have lost mass and never worked harder in my life {it feels that way anyway}, a cross between getting old and switching from 12 week cycles to all natural bb... it is a battle not to gain weight and lose muscle, find the energy, eat enough protein without a ton of fat, ect... Although not getting absesses and having to take antibiotics here and there to fight infections, not have to worry about needles ect. is a nice feeling..

Isn't it also a contradiction for CVS to sell homeopathic preparations and other nonsense that doesn't contribute to health?

I just heard that they will lose 2 billion dollars in revenue by dropping the sale of tobacco products.

I give a solid "Good for them!" on this one as it is really a solid positive decision on their part and acts responsibly as a company which I think we haven't seen enough of in recent years.

When I have the chance to choose them over others, I will make a point to do so.

Their total revenue was reported as 131 billion dollars, so tobacco is a solid 1.5% or so. Not exactly insignificant.

CVS quitting the cigarette business may come from their lawyers wanting out of a business that may cost them more in the future than they stand to earn.

Good for you! Honestly. Do what ever you have to do to keep away from tobacco. It's now known to cause 13 different types of life threatening diseases.

I think everyone should smoke and over eat, I make more money when more people are sick.
I think more Congressman and Senators should smoke and over eat. They'll want to spend more money where I work.

I say choose your battles wisely. Lung cancer kills nearly 1.38 million people a year. 80-90% of that is caused by smoking cigarettes. Homeopathic preparations may not help people who are seriously ill, but they probably don't hurt like tobacco.

Wow! I knew there would be a sizable hit, but, this is huge!

+1 on using CVS if there is a store option.

CVS is looking at the long game; that's tied to the USA's aging population and Obama care.

The big money is in retail clinic growth. For CVS tobacco products are a 'drop in the bucket' in comparison, along with the ending of sale being a high profile PR move.
Retail clinics are expected to be key treatment locations for millions of uninsured Americans once they obtain health coverage.

The big money
That right there is what counts.

If they could make more by killing you at the check out ...

Jeez Alex, cynical much? :D
Why would you say that? :D

I'm really just "in" RI but it sounds like you're the one "from" here. :p

I actually love it here. Maybe I don't know any better.

The last time I was at my doctor's office I had them phone in my script to a local mom and pop pharmacy. The CVS that I was using is more like a DMV with all the people lined up. Forget that.

Money counts for a lot more than we care to admit.
Mother Teresa and The Dali Lama are the only ones it doesn't matter to.:D

When it comes to any healthcare office and being lined up like DMV. Just wait a few years, you ain't seen nothing yet.:D
