Emotive XMC-1 is coming

My brother {before switching to xpr} painted his side pieces, satin red, then when he switched his rack he made some wood grain ones, that looked really good... point is easy enough to change up...

I bought the black ones because I don't like the silver ones, but they don't make them for the UMC-200. If they did it right, they'd let you choose the ones you want at order. Paint is cheap like ImcLoud said too. I covered mine with CF vinyl I had left over.

I'm keeping my eye on it as well. Even though I went with the Marantz when they announced the price increase I'm still very interested. The UMC, when it worked correctly, was a great unit and dead silent. My Marantz has a slight hum and even though I can only hear it when I put my ear up to the speakers it still bugs me a little. If the XMC does well and there is a price drop after it's been out for a while I'll probably get one.It does bug me that they've changed the design to match their new amps. So if I want it to match my XPA-5 I'll have to pay for the silver side pieces.
Yeah I dont get why some electronics hum (ground loop, not transformer hum) and some dont. All the HK and Marantz receivers I tried at my home hum, as well as all the Emotiva and Parasound power amps. But none of my Yamahas, Onkyos, or Pioneer receivers hum.

My emotivas, outlaws, and parasounds have NO hum, nor do my cheap topping or lepai's, not at any volume... I had a yamaha that hummed, but it was the unit itself, my marants slim had a hum but I sent it back and the second one had no hum...

I've never had any of my Marantz units hum either, and of the 10 or so receivers from them that I've owned, I used various amps with 2 or 3 of them.

ground loop hums have nothing to do with the wiring or quality of the components. a great source of info (and how to fix them) is the white papers at jensen transformers.

We went through pretty much everything anyone could think of to eliminate Darein's hum and it is still there, so it DOES have to do with whether the unit is built/wired correctly. He tried two different units and both did the same thing in his setup but the UMC-1 does not.

I'm still leery when it comes to Emo and processors. And, at this price point, they better knock it out of the park or this could be very bad. On a good note, they are claiming that this will be the first product built in the USA.

On a different note, did y'all notice that they have now released an XSP-1 gen2. They indicate that it is now a surface mount design. I definitely have mixed feelings on that.
Built or assembled?

I am sure this means assembled and packaged. Outlaw does the same, I belive, the boards and parts are made elsewhere assembled and tested in the US...

I think it's a given that electrical components are 90% + produced in China.

Does it have dual sub outs or do you use a splitter like I used to on my old onkyo? I got spoiled when my 5007 came with dual sub connections.

I also wish the site was a little more descriptive. No info if it has up scaling ability or if so what chip. Also, over on avsforum, there is someone who went by the DIRAC booth and was told Emotiva's implementation of their ARC only used 2 target curves:
EMOTIVA Thread Q&A [TECHNICAL TALK ONLY] - Page 563

P.S. I don't know if its bad forum etiquette to post a link to a post on another forum. If it is, I apologize and blame it on my 4 hours of sleep / 6 day - 80hr work week

Oh boy that is going to get you banned..................

Emo has pretty good phone tech guys, so if you can and ask them questions you will most likely get answers...

So what's all your honest opinon comparing this xmc-1 to the likes of the integra 80.3 preamp? I plan to get a new TV this year and want hdmi 2.0 ect... and originally wrote off this unit as it was hdmi 1.4. Now with hdmi 2.0, I think it's back in the running again, especially DIRAC is better than audyssey. I am curious if the xmc will do any up scaling for 4k as the website doesn't state anything about up scaling for 1080p with hdmi 1.4?

Of course, if the 80.3 doesn't get a refresh this year that limits the options as well.

I think the Integra 80.3 is a solid unit...gee..I wonder why :)

I am interested in the XMC-1 for the HDMI 2.0, but I am probably going to hold out and see what Marantz is going to do, or blow a wad of cash on the Bryston.

If this happens then another preamp will be on my short list to look at. So far it's between the xmc, integra 80.3 (refresh hopefully), and this possible marantz. It would be nice to go separates, but if nothing gets released fast maybe it's back to an AVR

The Yamaha CX-A5000 would be on my list.

I have no concrete reason to hate Yamaha's ARC implementation, but audyssey has performed well for me in my room and I guess I'm just scared of change?

What are your concerns with SMD? Is it the power handling aspect not going through a seemingly more 'mechanical' connection like hole through?
More along the lines of a giant PITA when I need to repair it out of warranty. I'm the type that if I put that much $ into a piece of gear, then I'm gonna have it for the long-haul, and I'm the type to repair it myself or take it to my electronics-tech friends to learn how to do it if I find I'm over my head on such a repair.

After the disaster that was the Integra 60.5 Pre/Pro, I am definitely leaning away from Integra at this point. I just wish Anthem would refresh the AVM 50 line
