Anyone else notice The Hobbit: EE quietly released?

I noticed this on the shelf at Frys over the holiday. Hadn't even heard that it was coming out.

A trilogy how in the world can the Hobbit be a trilogy. Ill admit I haven't seen the movies I heard they are bad though.

Apparently it's mixed with stories from The Silmarillion.

The reviews weren't to good for this one, but I actually thought it was pretty good. As I mentioned before, they made it a trillogy pretty much just to make more money and I am sure that was the studio more than Jackson. The EEs were ineveitable, which is why I didn't purchase the original BD release, I rented it.

ALL of the movies have elements from the Silmarillion and the rest of the "archives", The History of Middle Earth (12 books).

I like all the Middle Earth movies. The second hobbit movie I would classify as a bit stretched for the sake of making a movie but still good. Hard core tolkien fans might object to the side trips from the original story.

The sound tracks to these movies, at least the first trilogy, are IMO quite good.

I think you have been mis informed, while I dont think they are 5 star these are definitely good enough movies to kick back and enjoy, the HT sounds real nice as well, give it a go and then get back and give your thoughts, sawz.

I never thought that I would be so intrigued by the LOR and so on but once I watched I too got caught up in it and I like the whole "fantastic" approach, I feel like a kid at the movies and thats what its all about right.

Just not nearly as awesome as Game of Thrones TV series.

I bet if HBO had taken Hobbit and LOTR and turned it into a TV series, it would have been much better.

My wife fell asleep watching Hobbit 1 & 2. But she absolutely loves Game of Thrones.
