Does anyone have a guide or tutorial that goes over building a loudspeaker driver from scratch? Magnet, voice coil, everything

Especially interested in full range and tweeter design

Thanks

That is going to go beyond, probably, any enthusiast forum that I participate in or know of.

To achieve the exacting tolerances you find in drivers today, requires tooling that would bring the cost well beyond a DIY project.

Hi. I just did a quick Google search and clicked on the first video that I saw. I'm sure that there's a good deal of info out there on the web. Interesting topic.

Red, according to your introductory post here, you're already an EE and well on your way to doing research into these things. Shouldn't your classes have covered at least the basics of this stuff?

I suggest contacting Kevin Haskins of the former DIYCable. He can probably help steer you in the right direction. Please come back and contribute anything you learn to the DIY section. I personally have an interest in the subject.

The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook has some good information about designing drivers from the ground up and some of the software that goes into it. It goes over, albeit possibly not as in depth as you'd like, selecting driver materials, how many turns and layers the VC needs to be, touches on coating the VC to increase heat dissipation and power handling, an other things that go into driver design.

Acoustic Elegance might be worth contacting, although don't expect an overly hasty response since they're usually pretty busy, but they design and build all their drivers in house and might be able to give you some of the information you're looking for. TLSguy is also a great resource if you want to PM him.

You know, this wouldn't make a bad idea for an Audioholics article, following the manufacture of a driver from beginning to end. I would definitely be interested in reading that.

I think you forget, the first 50-500 articles will be buying guides and setup how to's :p

Lol its easy to go from green to red when you start picking fights with moderators with no provocation. I can't help it though, I'm a big man with big ideas!

Yea, those first pagers, especially the top 15 have pretty big sticks that can make green go to red and back again pretty fast.

You mean us first pagers number 27. :)

I still remember the day Alex passed Adam it was a huge controversy.

Hey hey hey, that's number 28 :p

That sounds a lot like 'those people'.

If I don't like the people on page 1 I just go to page 2 and move them up. :D
So the "responsibility" Adam was talking about means being the gatekeeper to the first page? Where are my bananas..... :p :D
