Hello. I'm looking to purchase a new desktop microphone but would like to use a boom arm to be able to move it around easily, the only problem is my desk is built-in, and has drawers on the side. So no way I can clamp anything to it. I was wondering if there are any heavy stand that I could put at the corner of my desk, and clamp the boom arm to that? It would need enough weight to not fall over when I move the mic around. I dont know what to search and am hoping Audioholics can help. Thanks.

Would you ever be willing to drill a hole in your desk? There are plenty of retractable mic stands that include an option to drill a hole in the desk with a drop in piece that screw clamps to the desk. If not, there are plenty of cheap end tables that you could buy and just slide flush with your desk that you could clamp the mic to.

I do have a hole in my desk for my wires. but am not sure if it would be wide enough. it is about the diameter of the top of a can of 7up (Picture: http://puu.sh/6eBbU.jpg).

I could push the wires to one side and clamp it in that spot, but would I have the room? Not sure how big these clamps are

You're talking about something like this right?

I have that one and the part that comes with it for the hole in the desk is much smaller than the hole you already have. I believe you only need a hole about an inch in diameter for the part I'm talking about and I'm not positive it would work in your existing hole. You would probably have to drill another one and stick it in there for it to work properly.
