Would my receiver and speakers be powerful enough to drive HD?

I don't have an HDTV and a Blu-Ray but I would like to ask.

I have an Integra DTM 5.9 stereo receiver with a pair of B&W 686 speakers. Would hooking up a coaxial cable from the cable box to let's say a Sony 40R450A HDTV and hookup a Sony BDPS5100 Blu-Ray player to the receiver and would my setup be powerful enough to drive it and without distorting the picture quality and degrading audio? I also forgot to mention the cable box plugged into the receiver via RCA cables.

Please let me know.

I don't think the cable box is a very high quality source to start with, the "HD" is pretty heavily compressed, but sure your system should be good enough to make it sound close to its potential...

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking? The audio portion will have no effect on the picture quality providing there is nothing wrong with the receiver. If the sound isn't distorting now, then it won't be with a new source hooked up.

Have you considered over-the-air (OTA) broadcasts? I've used those for years, in addition to streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and Hulu.

You don't have to sign up. They are broadcast over the air, so you just need an antenna. You can check out the tvfool.com website for some great info on what's available in your area.
