Do they actually sell the Carnegies? I sent email via their site and got absolutely zero response. That kind of gave me some confidence issues with them as a vendor. What's up with that anyway? If some builder is niche and ID and they don't reply to sales inquiries on their main page...hmmmn

When did you try to call them? When I called I got an answer, but I would buy them from Danny if he has any left, he either answers or calls back with in an hour or less in my experience, very nice guy... csb1's are a sleeper for sure $400 for that sound is a really good deal..

Apologies if I wasn't clear in my post, or if I misunderstand your response. NHT has a coupon for 10% off their products, but they don't sell Carnegie CSB1s. The home page at nhthifi.com says "Our offices will be closed from December 22nd until December 30th .... As a last minute Holiday Gift, use this promo code, ... etc."

If you're referring to the Carnegie website, all I can guess is that Danny, like just about everyone else, has taken a couple of well earned days off to enjoy time with family and friends. I'm sure he'll be in touch soon.

AFAIK, Danny Ritchie is a well-respected speaker designer and the man behind GR Research. One of his clients is Carnegie Acoustics (carnegieacoustics.com). You'll have to get more specific info from others here, or, you know, Google "Cargnegie CSB1" and see what comes up. I think there's even a thread on Audioholics about them.

ARE YOU SERIOUS BROStalker, just give it up, no one is ever going to buy a pair of cm5's on your recommendation, you are the only one crazy enough to max out their best buy card on them "just OK' speakers, I have heard them and the CSB1's sound better for 1/3rd the price..... I prefer sierra 1's to them...

If you think those sound better than the CM5s, then you either haven't heard CM5s, or good sounding speakers in general, or just want to cause attention. What you are recommending is the bottom end of mid-fi. If you do really like them, then it's cool, I suppose, everyone has different taste. But then I seriously urge you to go out and listen more

Do you realize that just about every time someone comes along and asks for suggestions and advice, whenever you make suggestions, you never leave it alone and the thread diverges from the OP's question and becomes a heated argument? Of course, it's not completely about you, I wouldn't engage while others do and sometimes go overboard but still you are the catalyst. It's not just once or twice but it's really a consistent pattern with you at the center.

You have never heard the csb1's and I have listened to the CM5's they are not worth the sale price, like I said before them are for posers who need to put their purchases on a best buy intrest free credit card, I probably gave more speakers away in the last 2 years than you have listened to... The CM5's are overpriced "just ok" speakers, nothing great, the mids are actually border line "not ok" tweeter is the aluminum nautilus and can come off obnoxious at higher listening levels and with certain material is fatiguing at lower volumes also....

Why do you think almost every reply you get on here is negative, and you are constantly referred to as "the troll", you spoke your peace recomended the cm5's and the OP did the correct thing by ignoring it, so move on, there will be another thread on here asking what speakers to buy in a few minutes for you to pollute with your non sense, go wait for it...

I am leaning very heavily towards the Emp Tek E41s because they are the cheapest and still seem to be getting great reviews. Also, I can take advantage of the in-home listening with free return if I don't like them. That being said, I can't decide if the Carnegie CSB1 would be a better option. I know by saving the extra $100 I could allocate that towards stands. Otherwise the bookshelves are going to sit on the sub (to the left of the TV) and my dresser (to the right of the TV). The dresser is maybe a couple inches taller than the sub (if that matters acoustically). To order the Carnegie CSB1 I would just call GR Research and Danny would take care of it there?

Two questions regarding the E41s and the CSB1s:

1. What would be some good stands that would work for each speaker? Cheaper the better (but still a good quality!)
2. What would a good crossover setting be for them? 80hz?

I was trying to engage Carnegie through their website and for whatever reason that inquiry was not responded too. Based on suggestion here I called Danny directly. He is getting a "shipped" quote. According to Danny, there are plenty of the B-Stock CSB1s available. He said Carnegie would determine the shipping but his company would make the sale. So I guess he is the designer and salesman but he is not Carnegie..

I guess there is a back story there but I don't care about that. Any idea how the CSB1 would compare to the Philharmonitor?

I am very impressed with the CSB1, I have not heard the harmoniitors yet, but I can without a doubt say the csb1's are the real deal, especially for $400...

I ended up buying a pair of JBL Studio 530s. I kind of wanted ribbons as I had a great pair ESS Air Motion Transformers for a dozen years or so back in the day. And I know how special they were. They were driven by a Pioneer SX-1250. I have never heard anything since that gave me the chills like that system did. Of course my hearing was probably a lot better in those days too. Anyway there just wasn't enough independent reviewers.. not to say once I sort through several sets of speakers here I won't be back looking to buy a pair of CSB-1s.. it is just that what information I can glean about the JBL Studio 5 series indicates they are pretty sensational speakers and the bookshelves were on sale for less than the Carnegies.. Resale should be better if they aren't really for me long run. I have never owned a horn based system before.

The way I would describe the sound quality of the Polks is just overall not very detailed. I have a headphone rig that consists of a Schiit Asgard amp with the Sennheiser HD600s and when I listen to that I can just hear the detail in the music. That is not the case with the Polks. I also find the Polks to be lacking in the mid-range a lot.

I don't think even $200,000 speakers are going to sound as detailed as a pair well-designed mid-fi headphones. It's simply a different experience listening to a lightweight driver designed to push maybe 60db from 1 inch away versus a heavy magnet and voice coil structure driver trying to push 100 db in open air.

My only question is which set of connectors do I connect to? There is a set on top and then a set on the bottom with a metal piece connecting the two.
