You know, mine really started with an idea of just a big patio and extensive landscaping. After I saw how much that was going to cost, I figured for just a little more, I could do a pool.

The upkeep of a modern pool is simple and takes very little time. I may spend 30 minutes a week on it.

My pool builders store is on the way to my gym so once a week I drop off a water sample, they analyze it and print out what I need to do and the amount of chemicals. If I actually need chemicals, they load the proper amount into my car and along I go. So far, I have only had to add chemicals once. The rest of the time I just have to dump a little acid into it or adjust the chlorine generator.

To clean it, I just dump out the skimmers everyother day, brush the sides once every two weeks and throw the auto vaccum in the pool on saturdays.

Thanks for the pics, I said it before and I'll do it again that is a fabulous backyard I'm really contemplating a major renovation to the back yard but I am fully aware of the work involved with pool upkeep and such I just don't have the extra time and I can't afford one of those live in pool boys for the summer unless I get rid of my son, lol. I think a paver patio and maybe a Hot Tub are more my speed being that the Atlantic is 7 minutes from my porch.

Seriously. Let me know what he's eating, cause I'm going to get some myself.

We finally got most of the landscaping done. It was a lot of work but I think it turned out well.

Just going through this old thread and thought I would update the pictures to show the growth of the landscape.

We finally got most of the landscaping done. It was a lot of work but I think it turned out well.

Wow! That has grown in nicely. Definitely nicer than the inflatable pool we use. Kids freak out when I make bubbles...

Here is a dramatic picture of one of the trees. I don't remember it ever being that short but I guess it was. I would say that it's around 30 ft tall now.

So my wife wanted a bigger diamond in her wedding ring or an outdoor kitchen for our 5 year anniversary. Easiest options she has ever giving me in life.

I was going to try and go with aluminum frame, cement board and stone veneer but after meeting with 5 companies that ended up being worthless, I just called my pool builder.

The good news is, as always, he was professional and will do the job right. The bad news is that he will use real rock and brick and my 4" pool deck won't support the weight. He will be cutting out a section of the deck and digging the proper footer and re-pouring the section where the island will be.

Our backyard is really small and we are about out of room so it will be a simple "L" shape and will match our retaining wall.

Here is the design we came up with:



We cleared out some of our landscaping and now we are waiting on the builders. They are around 4 weeks behind secondary to all the rain we have had.



Oh and one of our Italian Cypress is sick. It is about 25 ft tall now and brown from the top to about half way down. A tree guy is coming out today to look at it. I feel certain he isn't free either.

It's a first time I'm looking at this thread and thinking I could actually do something like that gorgeous backyard in my own backyard (before last summer I was living in 1bd apt)
Only thing stopping is the cost of this is easily 6 digits plus

Gotta say I love the outdoor kitchen. Has the pool flooded at all? Mark has an amazing one at benedict lake. As nice as his speakers are his kitchens I loved even more. It literally could be the set of a cooking show.

Yes, my pool has flooded 10 times this year. It's no big deal as I just run a hose, that I keep on the "waste" port at all times, out to the front yard and dump it. Takes about 3 minutes to drop it 3". It does make it more difficult to keep the chemicals perfect.

I have never seen rain like what we are having.

Oh, a lot of my accessories will arrive today such as the grill head, access doors and pull out drawers. The fridge won't be here until next week.

I cancelled the sink and side burner. I have used the side burner on my freestanding grill a grand total of 2 times in 6 years. I keep going back and forth on the sink. It would be handy but running the water line and then tying it into the sewer is expensive plus my wife said she would rater have more counter space. Honestly the kitchen sink is just a 20 feet from where the outdoor kitchen will be and my liqueur is indoors so I have to go in anyway...

Well, not over the summer at least!!!

I can't remember the last time that we made it this far into June and have not hit 100F yet!!!

Seriously, so far, this might be the mildest TX summer that I can ever remember (as far as max temp).

100+ days per year of 100+ Degrees is the norm around here

Outdoor sinks are nice if you have other hobbies like brewing beer.
