Yamaha RX-V800 to Nad T752 upgrade?

I currently have a modest home theatre consisting of a Yamaha RX-V800 (purchased new retail in Canada [~$1000CAD]). I have this running 4 Mission 701s in the corners. A Mission 70c1 center channel, and a Mission 700ASi 10" powered subwoofer.

I'm pretty happy with performance overall and the room isn't huge so it gets filled just fine, so it seems.

I have toyed with the idea of grabbing 2 more 701s (eBay?) and a 7.1 amplifier.
Lack of getting the right deal on the speakers and absence of material to take advantage of 7.1 vs 5.1 has prevented me from doing anything so far.

I recenty came across a used (excellent condition) Nad T752 (5.1) for $500CAD.

Would this be worth checking out?
Anyone have any experience with the NAD model in question?
I read a few reviews that state a few problems with them, so I'm a little leary.

Would anyone consider this to be an upgrade?

Any feedback ?
TIA

The 52 series from NAD apparently had some QC issues from my understanding.

The newer 53 series apparently has these issuies resolved. So you might want to look into a newer used model.

If you know this unit works prefectly you might be fine but just wanted to give you a heads up.

Well, I don't know anything about if or how well the Nad works.
It's a private sale so just what the seller is telling me.
I would be able to see it when I pick it up perhaps. I might be able to arrange a demo.

As a happy T752 owner for 2+ years now, I think you should be leary too. As has been said, early units did have some problems. There was a very long thread at AVS about them when the AVR's first came out, would probably be in their archives section now. If I remember correctly, problems ranged from noisy fans, loud beeps when the volume was changed, strange noises coming out of speakers. At the time, is was speculated that if your AVR had a serial number ending in 4xxx or greater, you had a newer unit that corrected the initial problems.

Another thing to check would be what firmware version is installed, with the unit on, just press and release the Video and Audio buttons on the front display simultaneously. I think the first version is 1.06 A7. Anything higher than this would be a good indication of a newer unit or one that was at least upgraded to the newer firmware by the previous owner.

But even with these units, some still had issues with hiss and hum. I had some myself, but I found that careful routing of the power cables eliminated it. Here is another good site for NAD info: http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/18.html

I am not trying to scare you off, just trying to make you aware of the past issues as best I could.

Another alternative is to buy a 2 or 3 ch amp for the rear channels only and use the pre outs?

Did some thinking over tha last few days.
I think I'll just hold onto the Yamaha RX-V800 for now.
I am pretty happy with it still.
I'll watch for a wicked deal on a 7.1, but be in no hurry.
When your not looking is when the deals come up right?

Never been a big Pioneer fan myself, but recently encouraged a friend to upgrade his tired old Pioneer Prologic to a VSX-1014, and he loves it with his Nuance speakers.
Maybe I'll go that route if I get an itchy trigger finger (or the VSX-1015).

Still always been intrigued by the NAD lineup.
Anyone selling a T773 for peanuts ? (or a Mazda6 or 8 :p )

What did your friend do with the old prologic? Maybe you can use the amp section of it?

Welcome to Disneyland

I actually have an old pro-logic amp in the basement myself.
I don't have an extra 2 speakers I want to run with my missions however.

I think it would seem awful Mickey Mouse using it like that aswell.
