The Yamaha RX-V4600 features 130W x 7-channel amplification, component video up-conversion, HDTV (720p/1080i) compatibility, and a two-in-one out HDMI switching interface. The HDMI interface offers the convenience of a single cable connection and ensures that there is no deterioration in quality in its digital audio and video signal transmission. Add to that dual i.LINK connections for SACD and DVD-Audio transmission and an MSRP of just $1899 and you've got a great mid-priced receiver! <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

i am glad i got my 2500 when i did, because i would have forked out an extra $1k just for the HDMI switching and the i.Link or firewire or whatever it is... because i am silly like that.

Now THAT'S a nice looking, fully featured receiver!

I like the streamlined, simple, Denonesque look. $1,899 is getting up there though. Let's hope street prices are more realistic.

We were going to have to go through this "phase" before we get to the $1,000 MSRP model. Can you say RX-V2600? :D

Im glad I waited to see what Yamaha was going to come up with to go with the DVD-C950 changer with HDMI out or the DVD-S2500 with HDMI and firewire. I will be waiting for a review when the AVR is out along with the reviews on the DVD players. This should be an interesting year. As it turns out HD FM broadcasting at MSU is coming soon or started... will have to check on this as they are listed at http://ibiquity.com/ . I hope they send you a unit to test ASAP. Will look forward to your thorough review. :D
Yamaha can keep the XM on their lower series of AVRs

Ya, you might be right. I recently asked Yamaha when they would be adding iLink to the RX-V2500, to complement the DVD-S2500 (which we are still waiting for, remember?). They got back to me and said "maybe next year when we replace the RX-V2500".

The press release said this new one will be available in June ... ya right, which year I wonder?

I heard there was a special edition version of the RXV2500 coming out with HDMI switching, but now it appears that it could indeed be the RXV4600. Or it could still be coming...Time will reveal all !

Amen. I don't need HDMI switching right now, but I'd have gotten it anyway. I'm glad I sprung for it when I did.

Other than the a more switching options, should we expect the 4600 to sound the same as the 2500? Both are listed as 130 watts p/c, both have YPAO. If they sound the same, I might just save myself $900.00. It will certainly help the WAF ;) and I can always add an HDMI switcher down the road when I need it.

Don't remind me, it hurts so bad ! (Rethoric ?) question in this thread.

TIA for _any_ scoops, even vodoo-based speculations (well, almost).

awsome!!! i was just asking the other day when Yamaha or Denon would have an affordable reciever with HDMI.... 1900 isn't realistic either... the MSRP of the 2500 was much higher and now you can get it for like 650-700 at some online stores!!!

sorry, late on the post!

Do we know if the presence channels can be utilized at the same time as the standard 7.1(i.e with the addition of a stereo amp)?

Talking it over with Yamahaluver, he has word that its the same amplifier section as the RX-Z1, so yes the presence speakers should be utilized.

I am glad to see HDMI packaged in a Yamaha receiver but at $1899 that is approx. $2300 in Canadian funds.

A little steep, too rich for my blood!

It's a good thing I'm patient, I'll pass on it for now. I'll wait till HDMI reaches the $1000 price point.

I thought it was steep too until you realize that the 2500 was released with a list price of 1099US and it is not uncommon to find them for 800 Canadian or cheaper since they are like 699 US or something... I have a feeling that we will be able to get it for 1800 Canadian with the price going down from there.
