Yamaha receivers - why 2 series?

Yamaha has two lines of AV receivers - the RX series and the HT series.

As far as I can tell, there's no obvious "division of labor", so to speak, between the two series. They seem to overlap in features, specs, and price far more than they differ.

What's the deal? Am I missing something? The HTR series seems relatively ignored in reviews by audio sites, and ranges a little lower and not quite as high in list price, suggesting the RX is to some degree the "prestige" line. But if you were to give me the specs for any particular model, there's no way I could tell which line it was from.

So - is there a substantive difference? And, if so - why am I missing it? Is there something I should be noticing, but I'm too newbish to know?

And it you look at the brand new models, the only deference (at least cosmetically) is the RX-V has white lettering on the face, and the HTR has yellow lettering.
