Let me turn the original question around.

Why do you want ME to NOT own an Aussault Rifle?

I don't think you should not own an assault rifle. The government uses or carries assault weapons and that is the military presence they have created. In keeping with at least part of the 2nd Amendment, that kind of falls in the well regulated part, if that translation is to be taken verbatim.
