My daughter is now wondering why i dumped all my vinyl.. lol

So she is getting into vinyl now... kind of neat

I have:
  1. Audio Technica USB LP60 Turntable (she bought, don't ask)
  2. Musical Design SP-2 Preamp (from old days) perfect condition

Needing some type of amp/receiver for her..

Thoughts? thanks much... Love forum!

With the phono preamp you have, you can hook that to almost anything, stereo or home theater, that has 'line level voltage' RCA input jacks. This includes inputs labeled for CD, DVD, tape recorder, FM radio tuner, etc. The only input jack you should not use is one labeled 'phono'. That would be where a receiver has a built-in phono preamp.

The Audio Technica LP60 turntable also has a built-in switchable phono preamp with RCA output cables that would substitute for the Musical Design SP-2. As a result, the stand alone phono preamp may not be needed. That would keep things simple. You can try listening to both different phono preamps, but I doubt if you'll hear significant differences.

I agree with Swerd.

I think the real question now is--what speakers?
