Technics Tuner

I just purchased a Technics ST-G3 FM/AM Stereo Tuner Quartz synthesizer off of Ebay and it really works well, but I cannot figure out how to set the presets. Does anyone have experience with this tuner and know how to set the pre-sets? What year was this tuner manufactured? Was it considered good in its day?

Most of the tuners I have dealt with, you just hold down a number/ release/ and push again. Or, hold down a number until the display flashes/ release/ and push again.

Manual programming the memory

1. Push the FM or AM button.
2. Select via tuning down or up the right frequency. Repeat until you get the right station.
3. Push the memory button shortly. The memory indicator burns 5 sec.
4. For channel 1-8 - 16ch preset tuning - Push one of the eight buttons shortly. The channelnumber is given. For channel 9-16 push one of the eight buttons longer until the right channelnumber is given.
5. The frequency is loaded in memory.
6. Repeat 1-6 for the other 15 channels.

I bought the tuner in the mid eighties and I am still using it! I have only the dutch manual.
