Surround System Advice

One of my best friends is planning on buying a Surround system and asked for help.Budget is around $1300. His LR is 12''x12''. He wants all bookshelf speakers,no towers. He is thinking of going 5.1 or 7.1, depending of the receiver he buys(he prefers Onkyo). I have been looking online for Home Theather Speakers and I like the APerion 4B Harmony,the Definitive Pro-Cinema 800, Boston CS 2310, also the Energy CB_10, Polk has some interesting combinations too.
Can I please get advice on which system will be best?

In a 12x12 room, 5.1 is enough - Definitive and Aperion are good choices.
