Suggestions for External CD/DVD Writer?

Need an external CD/DVD reader/writer for new iMac. I wasn't thrilled with the reviews on the Mac USB SuperDrive, and I'm not sure about slot-loaders. Tried a Samsung SE-218 ultra thin model but it was bad out of the box. I'm returning it. Seemed kind of fragile as well.

I really just need something reliable to read CDs to get music onto my hard drive and write an occasional CD-R (don't do video or DVD/Blu-ray). USB connection is fine, although Firewire is cool too. Max $100 budget, if I can get something robust.

So what are you guys using, or can recommend? :)

I got an external slim Asus dvd-rw drive long time ago - it still works great. not slot, but a tray model

Looked at an Asus tray-loader but it requires two usb connections (data/power) and I'd need a switch/hub. Considered an OWC "slim" ($89) and OWC Mercury Pro ($99-179) but decided since I don't really need the drive for much I'd just order another Samsung and keep my fingers crossed. The new one works fine ($34), and Amazon's return policy is easy. Done.
