subwoofers near the ceiling instead of on the floor

Guys,
I have a situation here. I want to buy a home theatre package, but dont have sufficient space in my room to keep the subs. How bad will it be if I install the subs such that they are at the junction of the wall and the ceiling as opposed to on the floor.

This place I live in is temporary, so I dont want to buy something like an in-ceiling subwoofer. I will be buying normal subs which are "normally" placed on the floors.

I don't see any reason why couldn't you do that. Only thing is that you will need strong construction to hold the sub up there as it will vibrate when being used and they also weight quite a lot as well. You don't want to risk it falling down and causing damage to anyone / anything. Couldn't you put the sub behind of sofa for example?

Why you want to buy package? Cheap price? What is your budget on speakers and how much space you have to work with? If you can't have sub, perhaps a nice 5.0 setup would do well for now and when you have space for sub you can add it later.

am going for a package for a couple reasons, 1 obv the cost 2 assuming that the speakers will be well matched. The package that im planning to pick is Klipsch RP160
Also, i will be buying an additional sub the same that comes with the package. So i'll be having 2 subwoofers.
I do understand that I will need very strong supports for the weight and vibrations.
Finally space is not my only concern problem is my daughter is 2 and i am scared what if she accidentally damages the sub...

How much would you pay for 5.2 setup like that? As I can't find price for package.. There might be better options available, specially when looking at sub(s). I would pick one better sub over 2 of those. Have you considered down firing sub? As the child can't see the element there is less change it will interest her.

i would be paying ~3000$ for this. Well ive converted it from my currency to dollars. THings are a bit more expensive where i live.
Well having read the book by Floyd Toole I have come to the conclusion that I really should go for 2 subs to get a very even bass effect. Which is why I considered this.
Btw, it might be helpful if you could suggest a good down firing sub. That sounds like an excellent alternative

Where are you from? As for 3000$ budget I'm pretty sure you can do A LOT better than those Klipshc. Knowing your location will help with sub suggestions as well.

So I believe your budget is around 200k INR? And I believe you can get some discount when you buy as package. Those options are what I would look at your budget. How ever, you didn't specify do you have receiver already? Or you have separate budget for receiver? If this budget is for speakers only, I would personally take either the first option or 4th option. If you don't have receiver I would look for Marantz, Denon or Yamaha receiver to go with speakers. If you need receiver with the same budget then I would look for 4th and 5th options.

Edit:
Keep in mind, if your budget don't allow 2 subs now, you can buy another sub later when your budget allows. I myself have only one sub for now and it sounds pretty good and the bass is surprisingly even. Will add another sub when WAF allows!

I totally forgot about down firing subs, out of those sites there are only 2 options and they cost quite a lot more.

As for price vs performance, I would say those PB-1000 are better choice in your case. MartinLogan makes down firing as well and they are sold in India, but the price vs performance is really poor when compared to PB-1000 for example. How importing electronics works out in India? As for down firing there are more options but they are not sold in India I think.
