So I can get this subwoofer for a really awesome deal open box at a local best buy. What are your thoughts on this? It's pretty new and haven't seen much on it.

Yamaha NS-SW1000 12 inch ported sub. 1000 watts. Didn't even know know Yamaha made subs..

Really awesome deal being maybe $600-700 or so?

Hard to say, might be a nice enough sub but it's a 12" ported sub with vague specs for frequency response and amp (18-160hz without further spec and 1000W dynamic/peak power). No dsp or other interesting features, but is pretty. Is it better than an SVS PB2000 or a Rythmik VFX12 or VFX15 or a Hsu VT15Hmk2 etc?

If I could demo it I totally would. I mean I could order it and try it in my house I guess but I wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

If BB would let you do that in-home trial risk-free that'd be a good way to go. You can do a risk-free in-home trial with SVS subs if you buy direct. Be nice if there were some third party testing to review the Yamaha with (I didn't see any).

If WAF isn't a factor, I'd take a 15" or 12" from Rthymik, PSA, , SVS or HSU first. Not saying that the Yamaha isn't good, but IMHO it isn't going to outperform the others all around.

I've owned Yamaha subs previously. Good on features, not so much on capability.
