Sub or no sub for listener with percussive sensitivity?

Hi,
I'm an HT newbie but I know I want to upgrade from my LCD TV speakers to a 5.1 surround sound system. One of the most important problems plaguing me is that I have a sensitivity to percussion, especially drums, explosions, etc. that gives me an irritation burning on the back of my neck. Sometimes I even feel like someone is hitting me there. Worse, after a few minutes it turns into a headache and then a killer migraine, total agony.

Now this happens most in the upper bass range, say, 80-100Hz. I've listened to a test disc with thrumming that went deeper and deeper and the guy kept saying "Tell me when this starts to bother you" and it didn't, so it's not excessive bass that bothers me; it's percussion.

Now some music just doesn't sound right without bass. I like cellos, for instance. How should I handle this problem?
