Get ready for a fun rant -

I am currently in a "Social Inequality" class which has been extremely skewed against anyone who is well off, at all, as in if you aren't lower middle class or less you are part of the problem. I have dealt with the the extreme slant and just "learned" what the teacher wanted to get an A.

Well today was the breaking point. The class was focusing on the health system and its inadequacies. So our teacher decides to put on the movie Sicko as if it were any sort of educational title. After all its not by a biased idiot or anything . A friend in the class and myself asked the teacher about the validity of learning from this propaganda and she just said it was a good example of problems in the health care system (you can tell she is a winner).

Talking about freaking ridiculous bull****. I cannot believe that this crap is being "taught" in universities. I don't care how liberal or conservative you are (I am in the middle) this kind of slant is unacceptable in a learning environment. No worries though the dean of every pertinent college has been informed by the majority of the class hopefully this gets a teacher who isn't blind to the world to teach the class.

/end rant

Edit: I forgot to mention she also referred to the movie as an objective piece...now I am not sure if she understands the definition of this word, but come on it called Hillary Clinton sexy - thats not objective thats just gross!

Can't be as bad as my Accounting class; we started out this semester with 28 people, all but 3 of us have dropped. Our highest test grades in the class were around 57%, and no curve, no homework, and no extra credit to increase the grade.

I took Organic Chemistry while an undergrad at Harvard and the score for an A was 47%. All the premed sciences required for medical school entry had lecturers who all said the same thing. They basically said that you can't possibly learn everything the school crams into you especially in medical school so you have to pick and choose and try and obtain as many points as possible. Since we're talking about medical system inadequacies, doesn't it feel good to be treated by doctors who were probably scoring 30-40% in organic chemistry :p

Hillary is HOT,very, very HOT, please Andrew don't mess with my fantasy chick........dental floss bikini, unshaved legs and armpits, no make up, she's a goddess, pure sex in the flesh......... Well enough of that, getting to your rant, that's why the cavewife and I work extra hard to keep our offspring in private school. Don't expect any less from "higher" education institutions they've become the Laundromats of the radical left, your teacher is showing you her true colors.

I don't expect much of the education system in this country and never have. I learned the analytic skills I needed from my few good teachers in high school and from my family. I also got my 'hunger' for knowledge from these same places so I further my education on my own when I have the chance. The only reason I am in college is not to learn, but to get that sheet of paper (in my case the three sheets) that says I graduated and of course am smart . I just want to ensure my future which is why I will continue my education after I graduate likely with medical school. At the same time while I find most classes trivial and pointless the teachers normally attempt to teach, but I never imagined so much BS could be spewed from a single person and passed off as knowledge it really is infuriating and a true sign that all I am getting is that sheet of paper.

Hey look more rants! Either way I think it isn't the schools that instill a real education in children I think its parental involvement and care that fosters a love for knowledge.

Just go into engineering. It's apparently widely recognized in the industry that there will be a shortage of graduating engineers in the next few years compared to the need within industry. Supply and demand, my friends.

Oh, and Andrew, I feel your pain. I took an Environmental Psychology class in grad school that turned mostly into a male-bashing feminist rant. It was an interesting class for me, though. It was both educational and infuriating to be in a class with a bunch of sophomores who thought that they had life all figured out. Not that I did, but I had at least achieved enough maturity to know how wrong they were. :) On a side note, I took the class because I thought it would help me in understanding how people view "the" environment. It actually turned into that, but it was officially supposed to be the study of how people view their environment (such as their cubicle at work, their dorm room, etc.).

There are some things that frustrate me into incoherence and cause my sense of humor to atrophy. That kind of biased brainwashing idiocy by "educators" is one of them.

Perhaps she just had a union meeting the night before......

Very well put. I don't know whats wrong with her to be honest. All I know is she "teaches" loads of crap and occasionally sleeps during the movies she subjects us to or the debates she forces us to perform in . Whatever brainwashed her it did a good job and is shown through the fact that she refuses to allow much outside thought in her class. This was shown today by someone suggesting that universal health care is not the solution to the United States health care problems she instantly dismissed the idea saying there were very few goods about the free-market health industry as compared to universal health care. All I know is I am glad I have one class period left and then the final!

You're doing the right thing by just re-spewing what the teacher wants to get your A. I had a communications class where the teacher just ranted about how the media was a tool of the rich to keep the lower classes down. After a few classes, I just scratched "MARXIST CRAP" across my notebook and never took another note for the rest of the class. I gave her back what she wanted on tests and papers and finished with a good mark.

I had another professer from the communications department teaching an historiography class who was a avowed Marxist years after the collapse of the Soviet empire. Funny thing about this professor, I had two professors from England. One passed his university entrance exams and went to Cambridge-a very fine and learned teacher indeed. The other failed his university entrance exams and was forced to come to Canada to buy his university education. Guess which one was the avowed Marxist.

The purpose of university is to learn how to think. In this regard, it seems you are doing very well.

So, how did you find yourself signed up for a "Social Inequality" class?
Were all other classes full?:D
What's your opinion, as to how your classmates are dealing with the class?
Are they slowly buying into socialism?
The reason I ask; during my college years, the general consciences of many classmates, unfortunately being.
"They wouldn't be teaching it in college if it wasn't true"

doncha just love how our tax dollars fund these types in our colleges?

I took an honors course at my local college last semester that is supposed to show how leaders can use language skills in order to bamboozle people into their way of thinking.

Now, I don't disagree with this philosophy. It's a known fact, or should be, but I do have problems with her teaching of it.

Understand two things:

1) I'm older than the average college student. I graduated High school when LBJ was president.

1.5) She's a philosophy professor (Doctorate level) who is just a little younger than me. i.e. we've lived through the same times.

2) Although historically I've been a conservative, I'm not happy with the way Bush has run this country into the ground.

All her examples use bush and his policies as examples to make her point. Every class was a thinly veiled attempt to bash the current president at every turn. When I pointed out examples that democratic presidents used the same tactics*, she conveniently managed to try to weasel out if the discussion. I would keep on pressing my point and, finally, after several classes, she asked me if I was that unhappy with her class, why don't I to drop here course.

I then responded by asking is this was her way of using her position to enforce her point and thereby validating my claims that she was too biased to address questions from one who lived through this era.

I then dropped the course and explained why, to the student newspaper. She's not teaching another honors class this semester and she's not on the listings for the next one, either.

* I thought she was having a heart attack when I asked if Clinton's ask saying "That depends on what your definition of sex is" was an example of what she was talking about.

I had an instructor like her years ago. You could be the smartest person in class but still fail if you openly disagreed with her extreme points of view. I found her class to be very easy though. All I had to do was to listen to her to find out how she thought. (This wasn't hard, as she was as simple as a slug) Then when it was time to turn something in, I'd have make sure that I agreed with her on paper, regardless of what my point of view was. I got all A's in a class that I should have got B's in. And I got my piece of paper with a gold star on it.
She also writes a column for a local paper. She's still dumb as a stump.

Then some people buy their M.B.A.s from non-accredited schools and wonder why anybody else would bother to 'go to school', when you learn less than not having gone at all.

I fail to see the objection. Michael Moore makes great, educational movies. If more people had paid attention to him, we would not be stuck with the absolute worst president who has ever disgraced the oval office.
(Oh, and the only problem with Hilary is that she is getting old like the rest of us. She was sexy when she was young.)
