Speaker selector boxes

Hi all, longtime fan of the video content here, joined to ask a question:

I have a low budget home theater room, 12x16x9' (seating along the wide side). I'm thinking about picking up a new Atmos receiver, probably the SR444 onkyo or the new Denon AVR-S710W. I'm not sure how effective 5.1.2 will be in my room but I'll probably try it out by mounting some standard bookshelves facing down (looks aren't really an issue but cutting holes isn't an option). I guess I could use some hints on what <$100/pair speakers have the widest dispersal, least weight?

At any rate, I'd probably want the ability to flip between the 5.1.2 and 7.1 (speakers already in place) depending upon what's more appropriate/suitable.

In looking at selector boxes, I feel a little bit out of my depth since so many of them are powered (is that necessary for my situation?) and seem expensive for what I'm trying to do.

seems to be the most minimalist one I can find.

However, in a 5.1.2 setup, the "surround" speakers are the rearmost ones, while in a 7.1 setup, those same "surround" ones are actually the middle ones. (unless you can reassign this stuff electronically in the receiver's menus?)

So just swapping A/B wouldn't work since the order completely changes between the two setups?

So I'd need multiple selections to reroute things? Quite confused.
