Folks:

in setting up my Denon AVR-3802 with a set of monitor audio silver s6 (using the onscreen guide, in the section entitled "sound level" i think), i was suprised to have heard a different tone from each speaker. that is to say, during the setup for volume level, each of my two speakers appeared to give me a different tone from the other.

is this usual and expected? does Denon purposefully use a different tone for left and right in this setup procedure? or does it signify a difference in my speakers (or their placement), or in my hearing? too many factors for this newbie to figure it out on my own. has anyone else encountered this? thanks for your responses.

I think it's the placment.

You would be surprised to see just how much that affects the overall sound.

Unless one is defective, of course. An easy way to verifty that is to simply unplug 'em and switch their positions. Odds are they will still sound the same, relatively speaking.
