I'm about to buy the SVS Ultra speakers here: http://www.electronicsforless.ca/svs...each-3888.html

I need a subwoofer to match with the SVS Ultra speakers and that can fit in these dimensions

The 2.1 system will be used only with my computer (optical cable).
I have limited room available: 10"W 16"H
budget is around $600

Currently looking at PSB Sub Series 125 at $500
Size is perfect. But i've been told i could get better for the price if i wasn't restricted in size :/

Any suggestions ?
Thanks !

Nice choice on the Ultras. used to own a set and loved them. Sold them and have regretted that ever since. So, whatever you do I highly recommend that you do not sell them like I did. Anyways, there are better options out there in your price range. Here is one getting a lot of attention as of late:

If I were in the market for a new sub, that is exactly what I would go with. Duals would be splendid should you have the room! Anyways, good luck in making your decision.

Cheers,

Phil

If you could spare another 2" of width, the JL Audio Dominion D110 would be a good match to your SVS Ultras. The Martin Logan Dynamo 700 is another diminutive sub that *almost* fits. The Outlaw M8 might be another.

If nothing else, you could DIY a box that fits. The Tang Band W8 2022 would be great in a 1.2 cubic foot ported box tuned to 25 Hz. Plays about 100dB at 60 watts and has an F3 of ~23.6Hz. The Tang Band W8 740P would be another worthwhile choice, performing well in an even smaller 0.7 cubic foot box tuned to 28Hz. It'll handle 150W, reaching just shy of 104dB, playing 27Hz - (whatever crossover point you choose) +/-3dB, and playing down into infrasonics at similar levels as the 2022. If you're interested, I could try to model a design in Google SketchUp?

I did not see the limited room requirements....LOL!!! Guess, I am blind these days....LOL!!! Either that or I am not awake just yet. The 10" RSL Speed Woofer is garnering a lot of attention though. It is probably too big for the OP's needs.

With your budget I would find a place for real sub. 8" driver wont get you far and with your budget you can get good 12" driver sub
I considered this, but i really don't have any other place to put the sub. I am limited to the dimensions available under the desk.

I had a lot of hesitation before buying it, but there's so many good reviews about it !!
Just after hitting the buy button on the SVS Ultra, i discovered the LCR-750 and now i'm not sure which one is better... Any thought of this ?? I've put the SVS Ultra on hold until i can decide

Unfortunately it's too big :( 16" width and only 10.25" available

The Dominion D110 wouldn't fit, but the D108 would. I have already checked it out but found it very expensive and hard to find with shipping to Canada

Outlaw M8 is just a few milimeters too big :( 10.875" width VS only 10.25" available

LCR 750? Not sure what speaker you are referring to here? Can you elaborate a bit more? The Ultras are very good. Not much out there that can best them under $1K. Actually, I am NOT aware of anything that beats them in the $1K price range. If so, I would sure like to know about it.

Cheers,

Phil

I'm talking about this: http://www.mksound.com/home-theater/ci-solutions/750-series/lcr-750
A bit more expensive, but may be worth it. Not sure yet. The SVS Ultra have so much good feedback. Probably still going to end up buying them.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. I have never heard the M&K's, but I can assure you the Ultras are that good. Selling mine was a BIG mistake that I have regretted ever since. Oh well, we all live and learn.

For nearfield usage sitting at your computer, a small 8" subwoofer will be fine. The main thing you would lose would be low end bass extension. For movies and/or gaming, you might wish for something to dig deeper. But for most music, the PSB Sub Series 125 should be fine for filling in the low ened. See if you can buy it locally with a return policy and evaluate for yourself :)
