Setting AV delay (AV sync)

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on setting te AV sync for my DVD player-->AMP-->TV. My TV is a Sony 50" SXRD (KDS-50A3000). DVD is hooked-up through amp via HDMI. Amp passes-through 1080p uncompressed. TV is hooked-up to amp for watching broadcast HDTV via TosLink.

I have two options: set the delay on my amp or on my DVD player. I'm wanting to do it on the DVD player since broadcast TV is in sync (I assume the TV delays the audio before outputting via TosLink? Can anyone confirm?). For some reason, the delay seems different when set in on my DVD player compared to my amp. 20ms on DVD player = 70ms on amp. This seems strange to me.

This is completely throwing-off my mind and I can't find that perfect sync point. Hopefully someone can advise on the average audio delay needed for this setup.

Any advice in general on setting AV delay would be greatly appreciated!
