Set up screen and sound lag

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site, and I am looking for some help. I have an LG 47lb50 TV, and have it running through a Motorola VIP1216 box from my service provider, and I have just picked up a Samsung HT E550 entertainment system. I have the Motorola box and the entertainment system connected via an optic cable, and the entertainment system and the TV connected via an HDMI cable. My problem is when I first hooked everything up, I had my on screen display. I picked up the optic cable, and now I don't have my display screen. How do I get the display screen back?

There is also a slight lag between the sound from the TV to the system. How do I go about fixing this?

I hope I have given enough information to get some help, and thanks in advance.

In the setup menues of your soundsystem there is a setting called "Audio Sync" that allows you to set a delay on the audio.

As for your "display screen" I don't quite understand what you mean. What screen are you referring to?

I am unable to get the set up, or menu screens to show up.

I'm probably just missing something, but I can't find the main menu screen for my entertainment system. What am I missing?

Are you forgetting to switch to the HDMI input for the entertainment center vs the cable box on your tv?

When I switch my tv input, it shows no signal. I think the hdmi cable is good.

If you can't get the on screen display up while there's a dvd playing i'm stumped.

I disconnected everything, and started fresh. My HDMI cable was bad. Everything working now. Thanks for your help!
