I recently picked up an old monitor for free, a 17" CRT. I was hoping to use it with my Radeon 9800 AIW as a second monitor to watch TV, play video games, etc. I have been looking around for any adapter that will convert a component, composite, or s-video to a VGA without the use of one of these http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=2011&sku=40227&engine=adwords!654&keyword=%28s+video+vga%29
It is too much money to use something i got for free, and i was wondering if there existed an adapter of sorts that would do the same thing for a lot less and not add to my already ridiculous computer acessory closet. Thank you very much for any help.

The cheapest one I could find, that I am currently using is the Audio Authority RGB to VGA (#9A62) transcoder. I got it for $160 shipped. Hope this helps

Hawke, the DIY project you showed me looks promising, but it is vga to composite, not the other way around. I have found plenty of those whilst searching for this adapter. However, the pinout looks to match up, and i wonder if the signal would travel in the opposite direction as well? If anyone can tell me, i would appreciate the advice before buying the components. Thanks.
