So here's where I am right now:

BMX pretty much answered my question as to what's causing that nasty looking blob.

Now, my family and I like to be as DIY as possible and I'm wondering if anybody here has attempted replacing the polarizers inside their LCD Projector themselves? Mine is a Panasonic PT-AX200u and I would love to be able to buy a "cheap" part, pop open the case and do a quick swap. I have a lot of experience with cars and computers where this kind of fix is very feasible, but I'm extremely new to the projector world. Am I totally nuts for asking this kind of question?

You can replace the Blue Polarizer. On a LCD PJ there is usually 6 polarizers. 3 IN Polarizers (one for each color...RGB) and 3 OUT Polarizers (again, one for each color...RGB). The blue polarizer that usually goes bad is the BLUE IN Polarizer.

It is usually a fifteen minute or job to replace the polarizer.
