Howdy. What Y-adapter would you recommend? I bought this one -
http://www.amazon.com/RiteAV-RCA-Splitter-Male-Female/dp/B000V1JUJU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273167408&sr=8-2
because it was dirt cheap, but when I used it one of my subs gave off a constant buzz for some reason, so it went in the trash. I checked on monoprice but all I could find was a 2 Male to 1 Female adapter instead of 1 Male to 2 Female. There are other options on amazon but I figured I'd just ask to see what yall are using first. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/links.

I've used a several of them over the years from a variety of vendors. If you live near a Radio Shack this is a nice one (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102977) that is a bit better quality than the 2 dollar monoprice but still reasonable.

EDIT: I see it says out of stock on the web site now but I was able to check my local stores and they do have this in stock so your local should as well.

The Amazon splitter was unshielded and that may have been the problem. Radio Shack has what you need for about $5.

Yeah, I live about 2 miles from one and apparently they do have it in stock at that location. Thanks a ton.

Ah. How can you tell when something isn't shielded?

Well, that's even cheaper and also in stock, so maybe I'll get that instead. Thanks :D

If it's got little skinny wires that's a good sign that it's unshielded.

I have never seen an RCA splitter that wasn't shielded. EVER. Maybe one made with speaker wire but that was back when compact stereos were still made and it was specifically for speakers with RCA plugs. What makes you think a Radio Scrap Y cord will be better?

If your subs were plugged into different outlets, on different parts of the room, it's likely that your Y cord had nothing to do with the hum. The AC feeds to the outlets are on different phases and you have a ground loop.

They're plugged into the same surge protector.
