I guess my biggest interest in the film, besides an appreciation for Depp, is the fact that parts of it were filmed here in Oshkosh.
Beyond that, while I'm curious of the reviews, it looks like a rental for me.

I ask if you saw it first, and then if you had any thoughts about it.

I was not asking what you might think of it without seing it first!

Hmmm... I should have made that clear right from the beginning.

* And I don't wanna know what you guysthink of the review. ;)

I haven't seen it yet, but my girlfirend saw it with her sister and she really liked it. She didnt' really go into detail about it, but I can't wait for the blu ray.

Same for me, I'm a HUGE fan of Michael Mann. And I love gangster movies, and with Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in it, wow! that is surely a good recipe for a very entertaining film. :)

First, don't call me Dad. :(

And I hope that you did not take me seriously. ;)
Because I was. :D .....................................................................NOT.

I saw Transformers 2 first, then I saw Public Enemies 2nd over the weekend.

I thought Public Enemies was sooooooooooooooooo bad that it made me think that Transformers 2 was good.

I'll be the first to nominate PE as one of the worst movies of 2009. I think I yawned like 20 times during this 2.5h movie, which felt like it lasted 25 hrs.

I thought PE was even a lot worse than Wolverine: X-Men Origins!!!

I have to say that 2009 does not appear to be a great movie year for me.

1st, I thought the "Public Enemies" story was BORING.

2nd, I thought I was watching a HOME VIDEO shot by an expensive hand held HD camcorder.

3rd, except for the dialogues, I thought I was watching a silent movie. The soundtrack was practically nonexistent. Let's see...there was the dialogue...then there was the gun shots...then there was the elevator music....

4th, I thought the story was BORING. Oh, sorry, did I already say that? :D

Oh, I forgot to say that it had no character development. I didn't care at all for either Johnny Depp or Christian Bale's character.

AcuDefTechGuy how about telling us some of the movies you like, and why because I'm beginning to think that maybe you have odd taste in moves?? I'm not saying thats a bad thing... but since everyone is entitled to their own opinion..

Well, I like practically all genres: Comedy, Action, Sci-Fi, Drama, TV, etc.

TV: Lost, Alias, 24, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dexter
Comedy: Old School
Drama: Freedom Writers
Sci-Fi: Star Trek 2009

To name a few others: Underworld 1,2,3, HULK, Iron Man, Dark Knight.

They filmed a lot of PE within a block of my place. It was kinda annoying when I was trying to sleep and some dude was using a bullhorn outside my place (I'm usually up late, hence not awake early). I'll probably check it out on video just to see the neighborhood.

I like a lot movies that other people don't like.:D

I like Watchmen and Terminator Salvation.

I usually like violent action movies with a lot of shooting.:D

I even like old classic movies like Gone With The Wind, Ben Hur, Sound of Music, etc.

Heck, I even like some chick-flicks like "27 dresses"!

I'm serious. This PE movie looked like it cost only $100,000 to make if you took all the actors' salaries out!

Video - sucked
Audio - sucked
Story - sucked
Acting - what acting? Even Christian Bale and Johnny Depp looked confused in this movie!

Me, I love movies with a lot of love and romance flying from all around. :D

I also love movies with a lot o guts spread all over too, you know those ones with extreme horror and gore. :D You know, like "Planet Terror".

And finally, I love movies about revenge and deep hate with a lot of heads cut down by axes or chain-saws, or knifes, or simply blowned off by a shotgun or a grenade; just for pure revenge and satisfaction.

The other type of movies, I don't really care for. ;)

Oh, And I also like when they dismember bodies by cutting them into small pieces, you know, like "Goodfellas". Or bodies and heads smashed up by baseball bats, you know, like "Casino".

Well, there is one peaceful movie that I also like, "Younk Frankenstein". :)

But I do admit that PE, I do want to see.

Wait.

I don't get it.

Transformers = T, Wolverine = W, Public Enemies = P

If T > P, & W > T,

then the answer is W > T > P.

So then, mathematically speaking, wouldn't P suck?:D:eek:

I'm going to have to disagree with ATguy. I saw this last night and enjoyed it. I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5. I thought the movie was shot well and although not laden with surround sound, when used, it was very good. The picture was much sharper than the last 2-3 flicks I saw at the same theater. I tend to like gangster movies, so I could be a little biased.

The movie was sort of slow at times and it had somewhat of a depressed, kind of sad feel to it with a presence of evil to me, which is IMHO, what most of these movies should feel like. It's hard for me to understand how people can idolize criminals that shoot innocent people at the drop of a hat, have blatant disregard for authority and steal all the time. If you want a happy movie, don't go see this one.

I'm not to fond of how they misrepresented some of the historical facts, either, although there are many accounts of some the events that occurred. One of those is the death of Pretty Boy Floyd. While agent Purvis gets the credit, some say that a local lawman shot him first. There are other discrepancies about the event, also.

I thought Depp and Bale did great jobs with there respective roles and they even somewhat resemble the people they portray. Good acting overall, but not award winning in my opinion. Worth a look now and definitely worth a rental if you want to wait.

I was disappointed in this movie. It was very slow for the first 1.5 hrs. The last hour was ok. I didn't feel that the director built the character's very well. Dillinger was a well known person but I feel that the director expected you to know about him and his history before watching the movie.

The cool part was I was in Chicago Friday night while I watched it and that made it worth the admission price to be watching it in the place that it took place in.

I went to the 9:30pm showing and sat behind a young mother who brought her 3-4 yr old with her to the movie. The child acted much better than her mother as mom took it upon herself to text and make cell phone calls throughout the movie. I bit my tongue on the texting but the phone calls sent me over the edge.
