Proper Sub Crossover?

If my amp has all my speakers set at 80hz at the crossover...meaning it sends anything below to the SUBs. Then why bother setting the sub crossover in the back? My SUB does not have an LFE input, just a dual RCA. I have a Polk Audio PSW10, nothing to fancy.

Since your receiver is taking care of crossover duty the sub should be set to "pass through" if possible or the highest setting, otherwise you'll be doubling up on crossovers which will have a negative effect.

Question: What would be the negative effect?

Could easily be turned around to what is the positive effect of combining filters that you've been employing? ps a crossover is not a brick wall, so there is information above and below the crossover point....
