I read an old stereophile poll that said their readers averaged $2500 invested in their stereo......seems low?

So,let me ask the following:

How much invested in $$:

Current music system: Main listening(Home Theater or 2.1 stereo)
( the poll was about 2003; I think)

What type of main speakers:

Example: jeff1956

$3500, 2.1 channel stereo
Definitive tech Dr-7

How long ago was that stereophile poll? Don't forget inflation.

How long do you want us to go back. The equipment here ranges over half a century!

Just cost out whatever a burglar can easily carry. ;) :D

In my case, I've spent more than I needed to but less than I'd like.

You're going to need to specify a little more here. What equipment do you want included? I assumed that you're looking for main speakers, anything in the power chain, and sources? If so my answer is:

$1700
EMP E55Ti

Edited to add sub.

Yes, since it is stereo I'm assuming only equipment related to playing music. Also I'm guessing it is only the main listening room.

Just an FYI, I edited my post (#4) as I completely forgot that my subwoofer would be used for music.

Well, just spent $4000 on Paradigm Monitor 11's, Center 3, Surround 3's, Monitor Sub 12. Eek! That hurts...

I have just added the cost of the equipment to my main studio/theater. I have not adjusted for inflation. The equipment over the years has cost me pretty close to $75,000. If you add the cost of installing the studio panel, circuits and medal conduit with pipe bending, we are talking about $85,000.

The basement system runs to $6800, and the system at out Eagan home $7000. So about $100,000 for the equipment for all three systems. I still have my microphone locker which cost me around $3,500. Of course that is all spread over 50 plus years.

I've shrunk my system down a bit in recent years, so current actual cost is considerably lower than what I've spent. Current main system (5.1) is about $5200 not including the display, or stands/rack. Current system 2 (2.1) is about $2K

I think my main HT has around $4000 in it. Many of the components are old, though, so it would probably cost more today. I bought the speakers in 1999 and the receiver in 2006 or 7. The TV and BD player were purchased within the last year. My bedroom system is about $2000 but it is only 2 channel. It has a new BD player and a new receiver. The speakers on the system date back to 1996.

I never wanted to add it up, because I would be mad at myself for spending so much money!

I have only been investing in home audio for 12 years
-3 Yamaha AVRs - $3500
-Klipsh Speaker/Sub and Polk Rears (First 5.1 System then 6.1 DTS) $2000 estimate don't remember model number
-Anthem AVM 30 / PVA 7 / MCA 50 / MCA 20 - 8200
-Paradigm Studio 60v3 ADp 470v3 Surrounds (4) CC-570v3 - $4600 - traded in cc-570 for cc690v3 $1200
-Paradigm Seismic 12 - $1400

Current System:
-Studio 100v5 - CC-690v5 - ADP590v5 - $6100
-Integra DTR 80.3 - $2199
-Halo A52 A21 - $2000.00
-Sony 2000ES blu Ray $899
-Marantz 7007 Blu Ray $899
-Cables - $1000.00 estimated everything
-Monster Power Conditioner $300
-Panamax 7500 Power Conditioner $700.00
-TVs ---damn to many to count (1) Sharp (4) Sony (1 Mitsubishi) $8,500.00
-Media Server $700.00
This sounds much more impressive than it is, I would often sell my old equipment to buy new.
(i.e when I sold my CC-690v3 I sold it for $975.00 and bough the V5 for $1200 so not a lot of expense)

My dealer was also good about letting me trade stuff early on for full price within 6 months for upgraded gear. (Speakers, AVR, Blu Ray)
So about $44,200, which included a lot of upgrades and sales on audiogon, so its really not that impressive. That and 55/60 in TV's used to cost a lot more back then :)

Current Value of Equipment Used ~ $19,000 I am a lightweight compared to most on these boards!

Probably around 8 or 9 thousand total for two rooms, one is 5.1 and the other 2.0, both have TVs.
