Passive sub question

I have a passive DVC sub with only hi-level stereo inputs. Can I hook up a low pass crossover about 80hz to it? I think it is set up to about 120z which is to high for me. Would I need two filters or just one being that I have stereo inputs?. How would I do this? Thanks Davenlo

Is this for home or car use?

And what other equipment do you have?

If it is home use, and if you have an ordinary surround receiver, you will use the preamp level subwoofer output of your receiver, to attach to a power amp, that will then be attached to your subwoofer. You then use the crossover in the receiver, and have no need of an external one.

Many passive subs have NO filter on them, so it is entirely possible that it seems high because there isn't one. A passive filter may work, but if it does have its own built in passive network, adding an additional one is going to produce unpredictable results. I agree with Pyrrho, external amp utilizing a crossed over signal from a receiver is the cleanest way to do it.
