Optical audio cables and protective covers

I was trying to hook up the optical audio cables, and like a dummy, I didn't realize there were protective covers on them. I think the covers are now stuck in the sockets. How can I get them out without damaging anything?

Or maybe a hoover with attachment ?

Use tweezers
