Through my continued work on my home theater, I have come into contact with a local audio specialist with whom I've been bouncing ideas off of. He also has a small shop where he sells (in his opinion) only high end equipment. I am currently running an Onkyo NR5010, and he is trying to push a Sherbourn PA 7-350 amp on me. He isn't being aggressive about it, but feels this amp in combination with something like the PT-7030 would offer me a far superior experience then what the NR5010 can do.

I'm not an audiophile by any stretch but I do appreciate good sound. I mostly watch movies and game, but also listen to music on occasion. Would it be worth me selling my NR5010 and trying to purchase the above combination? Given the speakers I'm using, would I notice a huge difference or would it be so small that the average person wouldn't hear any difference? I like things loud if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

The politically correct answer would be that it depends on your speakers, listening distance, room acoustics, and volume.

But I say no, it or any other amp will probably not improve the sound quality.

Ok, thanks for the input. I will pass on his offer. I was fairly impressed with my equipment anyway, and it should be even better when I finish renovating the home theater room and add acoustic treatments.

Exactly, trust your ears.
