Hey, I have finally decided that Im going to get a receiver pretty quick here since there is 2 good deals going on. I am trying to decide which of the 2 I should get.

Both are Yamaha since I have been pleased with them in the past, and both are around the $600 canadian mark.

One is the HTR-6090 and the other is the RX-V861.

I will eventually be purchasing the Athena floorstanders for my 7.1 set up, just wondering if anyone has any opinions on which receiver would be a better idea, they seem relatively similar to me, but I am still pretty new at this, if anyone has any thoughts let me know!

Thanks alot and Merry Christmas everyone

The 6090 is the RX V1700. So it's a step above the 861.

While the RX-V1700 looks nicer, the HTR-6090 certainly has more power. It also have a few newer features. If you can find the HTR-5990, it isn't much different from the HTR-6090. Similar amplifier (probably the same design and power), and both do HDMI audio as well as deinterlacing HDMI output to 480p. The HTR-6090 has one more zone and the XM, Sirius, iPod stuff on it that really isn't all that necessary for most people.:)
