Long story. I am not an audiophile, I am a computer geek. I have at home, Pioneer Elite VSX-40 7.1, Sony Blue Ray, Pioneer 101 CD player(yes old, RCA), 60" Samsung LCD, 2 Sony Front speakers(about 3ft high), 1 Sony Sub (old, 50 watt, 8" cone), Kenwood center and rear speakers, Brighthouse Cable box. I have all hooked up thru HDMI (besides the CD Player). For 2 years system worked great, then sound started cutting off, then sound wouldn't work at all, or would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for sound to come on. Below are the steps I have taken to try and figure our what is going on.
1. Send receiver to Pioneer under warranty, they ran it for 24 hours no issues.
2. Swapped out HDMI cables works for a day or 2 then sound cuts off again or doesn't come on.
3. Did step by step plugging in of devices, one at a time, and system works for s small period of time then sound cuts off again
4. Removed sub from system and worked great, so purchased new sub, and started to work great, but then once I started changing from one device to another(CD, BlueRay, Cable), sound would stop working again.
5. I now only have CD player plugged in and it works great, if I go back to another device, then back to CD sound will take 10 seconds or so to come on, if at all. If I turn off system then turn back on, change device, turn off, back on, it starts to work, but then will cut off again or no sound again.
Very frustrated, not sure what could be causing the issue, what am I missing? Is it the HDMI board on the receiver? Could speaker cables cause the issue? I'm lost??
