Hey!

My family just got a new TV, but we kept our old surround sound system. However, I am really confused on how to set it up with the new TV. Here is my setup:

TV (4x HDMI, Red/White audio OUT, USB, Optical audio OUT)
Digital Cable box(HDMI,USB, Optical audio OUT, Component..)
Reciever STR K740P (see image)
Blueray(HDMI, USB)
Right now I only have my blue ray hdmi and Digital cable box hdmi connected to the TV.

So my question is, How do I
1)Get surround sound so it works with TV
2)Surround sound that works with Blueray

I am confused as to am I going from my TV to the reciever.. or am I going from my digital cable box to the receiver for audio..

Your TV isn't listed but I suspect it will only pass its own source output (ie, tv tuner) from the TV via optical out. If it is indeed, able to pass the other sources, then connect an optical cable from your TV to your receiver. You can check your manual, but I have my doubts this is possible.

Unless your Cable box or your BD player has a coax digital output, your receiver won't be able to handle both dolby digital sources at the same time.

Is a receiver upgrade possible?
