my computer doesnt recognize my new ram

so, i just put in the final piece of ram, thiere is a total of 4 gigs in there now, but when i right click on my computer and click properties, it says i only have 3.11 gigs, but CPU-Z says that i have 4 gigs, so im confused. does my computer know i have 4 gigs and is just not displaying it or does windows realy think i only have 3.11 gigs?

You'll need to switch to 64-bit windows if you want to access the full 4GB of ram.

32 bit operating systems can address a maximum of 4 GB (2^32 = 4 GB) but approximately 800 MB is reserved for the operating system itself.
