Location of the subwoofer

Hello everyone, I'm a scrub when it comes to this so excuse me for my stupid question.
I have a question about the placement of my subwoofer. I did try to Google the answer, but it didn't help much.

The problem I'm having is that I don't know where to put it. The current position makes has an odd effect on the bass (there's a picture of my room layout below). When I'm sitting at my computer, nearby to the subwoofer the bass is actually weaker than if I'm standing further away from it. So often I notice that when I'm on my bed, the bass is too loud and dominating over all the other frequencies, but when I'm sitting at my PC it's too weak. So what do you guys think?

Here's the layout of my room: http://i.imgur.com/Azg520H.png

Thanks in advance!

I always use the sub-crawl method. That is, you place your sub where you
normally sit, and then crawl around on the floor until it sounds best. Put the
sub there (unless it's some place ridiculous).

Edit: My current sub is over 200 lbs. So I just stuck it where the old one was and called it home.
